Product Overview
About A6 personalised invoice books
An A6 personalised invoice book is a pocket sized bound book of 105mm x 148mm carbonless (NCR) forms, a quarter of A4, printed in black ink with your own logo, business details and layout. It is the size for short receipts and small sales: a date, a customer name, a few lines, a total and a signature. Each book is bound with a manilla cover, a cardboard back, a wrap-around writing shield and black spine tape, comes in duplicate or triplicate, numbered or plain, and includes free design and free UK delivery.
What NCR means
NCR stands for No Carbon Required, the trade name that stuck for carbonless copy paper. The back of each top sheet is coated with microscopic capsules of dye; the face of the sheet beneath carries a clay coating that reacts with it. Press a pen on the top sheet and the capsules burst along the line of your writing, so the same words appear on the sheet below. No loose carbon sheet, no smudged fingers and nothing to line up. Each invoice in the book is a set of two or three sheets: the original for the customer and the copy or copies for you, all carrying the same printed layout and, if you choose it, the same sequential number.
Filling in a set
Put the wrap-around writing shield behind the set you are about to use; it stops the pen pressure copying onto the sets underneath. Use a ballpoint pen and press firmly: the pressure makes the copy, so a light touch or a gel pen gives a faint copy, and the third sheet of a triplicate set needs the firmest hand. When the invoice is complete, tear the top sheet away along the perforation for the customer. The copies remain bound in the book as your record until you want them; the perforation lets you lift one out later without loosening the rest.
Because every sheet is perforated, you can also lift a copy out later for your accountant or bookkeeper and leave the rest of the book intact, or keep the whole book as a bound record of the year and file it when it is full.
Duplicate or triplicate?
| Format | Sheets per set | Sets per book | Sheets per book | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duplicate (2 part) | 2: original and one copy | 100 | 200 | One copy for the customer, one for your records |
| Triplicate (3 part) | 3: original and two copies | 50 | 150 | One for the customer, one for the office, one for the van, the job file or the accountant |
Both formats are the same price per book on this product; a duplicate book simply holds twice as many invoices. Choose duplicate if one record copy is enough, triplicate if two people or two files each need a copy.

Who uses A6 personalised invoice books
A6 is a receipt sized book. It suits any business that hands over a short, numbered record of a payment and wants it branded.
- Shops, kiosks, cafes and takeaways: a branded receipt by the till for customers who need one, without a receipt printer.
- Market stalls, car boot and craft sellers: a numbered sales book that fits in an apron pocket.
- Window cleaners, milk rounds and paper rounds: a receipt at the door and a numbered stub to check against the round.
- Taxis and private hire: fare receipts written in the cab.
- Clubs, societies and charities: subscription and donation receipts where every payment needs a numbered record.
- Tradespeople taking deposits: a deposit receipt in the pocket alongside the A4 or A5 invoice book in the van.
Your details on every sheet
Every sheet, original and copies alike, carries the same printed layout. Typically that is:
- Logo and name
- Full contact details
- Registration numbers (VAT, Companies House) where relevant
- The heading (Invoice or another title) and number
- Invoice content: date, number, customer details, site address, your reference, itemised lines with quantities and prices, and net, VAT and total boxes
- How to pay: bank details, payment terms
- Footer text: terms and conditions, guarantee, signature line
Our designers place all of this for you free of charge, or reproduce the design you already use; your own artwork is printed as supplied once you approve the proof. Printing is black ink, so light tints and pale colours are checked at the proof stage.
Numbering your books
Sequential numbering is included in the price. Every set is machine numbered in turn, the number appearing on the original and every copy, and the run continues across all the books in your order. Give us the start number when you order, for instance 2001, and the sets read 2001, 2002, 2003 onwards; on the next order tell us the last number used and we carry on from there. For VAT invoices this satisfies HMRC's rule that each invoice has a unique identifying number. If your invoices are numbered some other way, choose the unnumbered option.
Why A6, and how it compares
A6 is 105mm wide by 148mm tall, the size of a postcard. Allowing 20mm for the binding edge you have roughly 85mm x 148mm (left bound) or 105mm x 128mm (top bound): room for your logo and contact line, a date and number, four to six short lines, a total and a signature. It is the easiest book to carry and the quickest to fill in, and the trade off is that there is no room for an itemised invoice with VAT breakdown and payment details.
| A6 book | A4 book | A5 book | DL book | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Size | 105mm x 148mm | 210mm x 297mm | 148mm x 210mm | 99mm x 210mm |
| Writing space | A receipt: a few lines, a total and a signature | Full page: long item lists, detailed descriptions, terms and payment details on one sheet | Compact but complete: six to ten lines, totals, payment details | One column of lines with a price column |
| Carrying | Shirt pocket, apron, cab | Clipboard, van, office | Jacket pocket, tool bag, glovebox | Jacket pocket, clipboard, till drawer |
| Filing | Fits a cash tin or an A6 wallet; clip to the day sheet | Fits A4 folders and lever arch files without folding | Fits A5 folders, or folds once into A4 | Fits a DL envelope flat; A5 folder with room to spare |
| Best for | Shops, stalls, taxis, window cleaners, clubs, deposits | Builders, mechanics, engineers, wholesalers, anyone itemising labour and materials | Plumbers, electricians, gardeners, cleaners, mobile trades of every kind | Florists, bakeries, couriers, restaurants, coaches, ticketed events |
If you need item lines, VAT and payment details on the sheet, choose A5 invoice books. If you want a narrow slip that fits a DL envelope, see DL invoice books.
Top or left binding on an A6 book
A top bound A6 book is the classic receipt pad: the number and date sit across the top, the sheet tears upward and it fits a shirt pocket. A left bound A6 book opens like a small wallet and gives a taller 148mm writing area for a few more lines. Both cost the same. Because the sheet is small, keep the layout simple: one clear space for the amount, one for the customer and a short description line will read better than a crowded grid. Our designers will lay it out to suit the binding you choose, or copy your existing pad, and you approve a proof before printing.
For A6 sets in a tear off pad, see NCR pads. For a full colour receipt book, see personalised receipt books.

- Top or left perforation throughout
- Numbering in sequence from your chosen start, when selected

Everything listed is in the price. The only things that change it are the size, the format and the quantity.
Design service and artwork requirements
Design is free on every order and works in two ways. Ask us to design from scratch: tell us your details and what the invoice must carry and we set a clean layout for the size you have chosen. Or ask us to copy your existing design: send a photograph, scan or PDF of the book you use now and we reproduce it, updating any details that have changed. Either way you get an emailed proof and unlimited revisions before anything is printed.
Supplying your own file? A print ready PDF, 300dpi with 3mm bleed, at the finished book size, is ideal; AI, EPS, PSD, JPG, PNG and DOCX are accepted. Leave 20mm clear on the binding edge and a space for the number if you have chosen numbering. Upload up to 50 MB on the product page or email larger files to sales@personalisedinvoicebook.co.uk quoting your order number. Artwork prints in black, so colours are converted to greyscale and pale tints may print faint; we point this out on the proof.
A file that is not print ready is never sent to press unchanged. We explain the problem, correct it without charge where we can, or ask for a replacement, and you approve a proof before printing.
The production process
- Place the order. Options chosen, card payment taken, confirmation emailed.
- Supply the content. A file uploaded at checkout, or a logo and details emailed with the order number.
- Design and preflight. A new layout, a copy of your existing design, or a check of your artwork, ending in a proof.
- Proof by email. Your chance to catch a wrong digit or a misspelt street before it is printed on every sheet.
- Sign off. Approve or request changes. Production time is counted from approval.
- Production. Printed in black on carbonless paper, numbered and collated into sets, perforated, and bound with a manilla cover, a cardboard back, a wrap-around writing shield and black spine tape.
- Inspection and dispatch. Checked against the proof and dispatched within 3 to 4 working days of sign off.
- Delivery. Free anywhere in the UK, with progress on the order tracking page.
Delivery and turnaround
A6 Personalised Invoice Books are printed and dispatched in 3 to 4 working days after you approve the proof. Turnaround runs from approval, not from the order date, so send your details straight away and approve the proof the day it arrives for the quickest result. Delivery is free to every address in the United Kingdom, including the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and Jersey, with no minimum spend. Dispatch and progress are shown on the order tracking page. If you have a hard deadline, email us before you order and we will tell you whether we can meet it.
Pricing
Only three things move the price: how many books you order and which format. Duplicate and triplicate are the same price at each quantity; the duplicate book holds twice as many sets. Ordering more brings the price per book down at every step. Everything else on the page, numbering, perforation, design, proof and delivery, is included. Prices exclude VAT. Rather than repeat figures here that change, the order panel and the price table on this page show the current price for every combination; anything beyond the standard range goes through the quotation form.
A6 Personalised Invoice Books in use
- A window cleaner leaves an A6 duplicate receipt through the door when the customer is out, numbered so the round sheet and the stubs agree.
- A farm shop keeps an A6 book by the till for the few customers who ask for a receipt; the copy is added to the day's takings.
- A sports club issues numbered A6 receipts for membership subscriptions, and the treasurer reconciles the stubs with the bank.
- A kitchen fitter takes a deposit at the survey and writes an A6 receipt on the spot; the full invoice follows on an A4 sheet when the job is done.
Support and guarantees
Every book we print is proofed before it goes to press, designed free of charge if you want us to, and delivered free anywhere in the UK. If you need help, email sales@personalisedinvoicebook.co.uk (answered within one working day) or call 01933 81 21 51, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30. You may cancel without charge up to the moment you approve the proof; after that the books are made to your order and cannot be returned. Anything faulty, damaged, short or different from the approved proof is reprinted or refunded when reported within 14 days of delivery. Customer reviews for this product are in the Reviews tab.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What are A6 personalised invoice books?
An A6 personalised invoice book is a pocket sized bound book of 105mm x 148mm carbonless (NCR) forms, a quarter of A4, printed in black ink with your own logo, business details and layout.
What does NCR mean?
No Carbon Required. The paper copies your handwriting by itself: pressure from the pen releases a dye held under the top sheet, which reacts with the coated sheet below. Carbon paper is not needed and cannot be lost or smudged.
How many invoices are in each book?
A duplicate book holds 100 invoices, each with one copy (200 sheets). A triplicate book holds 50 invoices, each with two copies (150 sheets).
What is the difference between duplicate and triplicate?
Duplicate (2 part) gives the original plus one copy and holds 100 sets, 200 sheets. Triplicate (3 part) gives the original plus two copies and holds 50 sets, 150 sheets. Choose duplicate if one record copy is enough and triplicate if two people or two files each need one. On this product both cost the same per book.
What can be personalised?
Everything on the sheet: your logo and trading name, address and contact details, company and VAT numbers, the document title and number, the fields your invoice needs, payment details and terms. The same layout prints on every sheet of every set, in black.
Can the books be numbered?
Yes, and it is included. Choose numbering, give us a start number, and each set is numbered in sequence with the same number on every sheet of the set. Tell us the last number used when you reorder.
Is design really free, and can you copy my existing design?
Yes. Send your logo and details for a design from scratch, or a photograph, scan or PDF of your existing book for us to copy. Either way there is no charge, you receive a proof by email, you can ask for as many changes as you need, and nothing prints until you approve.
What artwork do I need to send?
If we are designing, nothing more than your logo, your details and, if you want it copied, a photo or scan of your current book. If you are supplying artwork, send a print ready PDF (300dpi, 3mm bleed) sized to the finished book with 20mm kept clear at the binding edge; AI, EPS, PSD, JPG, PNG and DOCX also work. Upload up to 50 MB here or email larger files to sales@personalisedinvoicebook.co.uk quoting your order number.
How long do A6 personalised invoice books take?
Count 3 to 4 working days from the day you approve the proof to dispatch. The order date itself does not start the clock. For a fixed date, ask by email before ordering.
Is delivery free?
Yes, on every order, to any address in the United Kingdom including the Highlands, Northern Ireland and Jersey, with no minimum spend. Track it with your order number and email on the tracking page.
How much do A6 personalised invoice books cost?
Quantity and format set the price; more books means a lower price per book. Everything else is included, and prices are shown excluding VAT. Use the order panel or the price table on this page for the current figure, and the bespoke quotation form for more than 100 books.
Do you print in colour?
No, A6 personalised invoice books are black ink only. If you want your logo in colour, our personalised receipt books are printed in full colour and can carry any layout.
Can I cancel or return my order?
Cancel free at any time before you approve the proof. After approval the books are printed to your order and cannot be returned; if anything is faulty, damaged, short or not as approved, email sales@personalisedinvoicebook.co.uk within 14 days of delivery for a reprint or refund.
What fits on an A6 sheet?
Your logo and contact line, a date and receipt or invoice number, a customer name, four to six short lines, a total and a signature. It is a receipt sized book. If you need itemised lines with quantity, price, VAT and payment details, choose A5 or A4.
What is the difference between A6 and A5?
A6 is 105mm x 148mm and A5 is 148mm x 210mm, twice the area. A6 fits a shirt pocket and suits receipts; A5 takes a full invoice with item lines. Both use the same paper, cover, binding and numbering, and both come in duplicate or triplicate.
